Last night PBS’s Frontline aired a new documentary called The Warning . If you missed it, you are in luck. We’ve got it right here. Here’s how Frontline describes the documentary. “We didn’t truly know the dangers of the market, because it was a dark market,” says Brooksley Born, the head of an obscure federal regulatory agency — the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) — who not only warned of the potential for economic meltdown in the late 1990s, but also tried to convince the country’s key economic powerbrokers to take actions that could have helped avert the crisis.

I watched most of last night’s PBS Frontline presentation of The Warning . It tells the story of stalwart former CFTC chairwoman, Brooksley Born , her attempt to regulate OTC derivatives and how Rubin , Summers and Greenspan worked in concert to bring her down. This program coincided with a potentially lucrative personal opportunity to develop an esoteric financial system. With the cherished advice of friends I made the decision to turn it down.

Sleep FAQFall Asleep FastOctober 21st. 2009, 12:47pm I’m 17 and for the last 8 months or so I’ve barely slept every night. I get about 3 or 4 hours every night. I go to bed at 11pm usually and if I get to sleep it isn’t till about 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning. I’ve got bags under my eyes etc and I can’t concentrate at school… gah… Sometimes I take hayfever medication and that helps but I’d rather not. Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, is giving a more strident version of the same message , calling on the biggest financial firms to be broken up, arguing that he sees no reason not to implement a Glass-Steagall type split. But there is an interesting failure of all parties to discuss some of the real issues.

Note the pathetic apology by Arthur Levitt below for being part of the Greenspan-Rubin-Summers gang that tried to ruin Ms. Born’s career in Washington in the name of making the world safe for OTC derivatives. My regularly scheduled autumn sinus headaches have started in full force and I’m at my wits end. Since I don’t like doctors or medicine, this has become something of a problem for me. (Yes, yes, I’m a total hypocrite: I don’t mind slugging back a gallon of coffee or red wine but I will not take OTC medications to save my life.) And I especially don’t like sinus medicines because they make me all parched and thirsty. I was griping about this problem to my friend Kim the other day and she mentioned… da da dum … the Neti pot .
